The Science

Why Tissue Resists Differently

Muscle holds water and conducts electricity easily; fat is dry and resists it. Send a tiny, harmless current through the body and you can estimate how much of each is there — that is bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA).

What is BIA?
Bioelectrical impedance analysis sends a tiny, safe electrical current through the body. Different tissues resist it differently — muscle (which holds water) conducts easily, fat resists more — so the device can estimate body composition.
Is it as accurate as a gym or medical scan?
No. A wrist wearable gives a wellness estimate, not a DEXA scan or clinical body-composition assessment. Its strength is the trend you can watch at home, not a single precise number.
Why does hydration matter?
Because the method reads water. Being dehydrated or just after a big meal can shift the reading, so consistency (same time, same state) matters more than any one result.
Can it diagnose obesity or anything medical?
